As marble and tile installers for the San Diego area, one of the most commonly asked questions is, “How much is the average price for new tiles?” While it seems like a simple question, it also happens to be a complex one that requires some input from you as the customer.
But to answer the question in its simplest form, the average price of tile installation is between $8,000 and $15,000. Now I know that’s a wide range, but there are many factors to consider when shopping for a new tile floor or tile contractor. Below I have put together a few questions that customers should consider when starting a new project. - What type of “tiles” do you want? Tiles come in various materials, including but not limited to Porcelain, Ceramic, Mosaic, Cement, Metal, Natural Stone, and even wood. While ceramic and stone tiles tend to be the top choice, this is the first step in determining your pricing as tile selection is one of the most significant to save money or skyrocket your project costs.
- Do you want patterns or accents? Accents, inserts, trim tile, or custom patterns always add to the cost, but they are also some of the easiest ways to customize your floor plan. Again, this all depends on the inserts you choose. Some tile inserts are as cheap as $20 each, while some rare or exotic materials can cost upwards of $2,000.
- What type of grout and sealants will be used? While this is a small part of the bill, these are options that should at least be discussed to ensure you have the proper protection for high traffic areas. Grout colors and materials are also important as lighter colors tend to require more maintenance.
